AUGUST EVENTS IN SEDONA

If you are like me you are thinking the summer has flown by and you have not even had a chance to get out there and enjoy it. It feels like I blinked and we went from Memorial Day weekend to August. If you feel this way too, do not fear! There is still plenty of time to get out there and enjoy summer in the Sedona/Cottonwood area in all its glory. Just like the rest of the summer, August holds a plethora of activities to choose from that will help you coast all the way into September when the weather is still desirable and the list of things to do is also long.

August 7 is the first Friday of the month and that means it is time for the Sedona Gallery Tour. This fabulous event is free and goes from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and is sponsored by members of the Sedona Gallery Association. It is an amazing opportunity to see local artists highlighted and special exhibits while enjoying light refreshments. Free transportation provided and will take you to three of Sedona’s well known galleries: Hillside Sedona, Tlaquepaque, and Uptown Sedona.

Saturday August 8 is the date for two great events. First be sure to check out the Guided Bird Walk at Red Rock State Park, 4050 Red Rock Loop Rd, in Sedona. From 8:00am to 10:00am you can join a naturalist for a Guided Bird Walk and check out the large variety of birds who call Red Rock State Park Home. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a regular birder. Bring your own binoculars or rent some from the visitor’s center. Don’t forget your camera as this is a great spot for photos.

After a morning spend bird watching, plan spending your evening at the Second Saturday Art Walk in Old Town Cottonwood. From 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm you can explore the recently revived Old Town Cottonwood District. Enjoy the art galleries, wine tasting room, and restaurants. They all work hard to give you a good time with art exhibitions, music, food, wine and entertainment.

August 20 brings the Raptor and Native Wildlife Presentations by the Verde Canyon Railroad located at 300 North Broadway, Clarkdale. This is great for all ages. See owls and wild raptors at the depot and while you ride the train. Learn about them and other local wildlife from the Depot Presentation Handlers.

To close out August be sure to hit Starlight Rides, Wine & Tequila Tasting on the Verde Canyon Railroad August 29 from 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm. This is at Verde Canyon Railroad, 300 North Broadway in Clarkdale. The Verde Canyon Railroad will depart the depot at 5:30 p.m. Giving those enjoying the ride of a lifetime the chance to sip wine and tequila as they take in the beauty of the high cliffs as the sun goes down and transforms them into one of nature’s most unforgettable scenes.
